Aviator sunglasses feature oversize teardrop-shaped lenses and a thin metal frame. The design was introduced in 1936 by Bausch & Lomb for issue to U.S. military aviators. As a fashion statement, aviator sunglasses are often made in mirrored, colored, and wrap-around styles.
In addition to pilots, Aviator-style sunglasses gained popularity with young people in the late 1960s and continue to be popular, with only a brief fall in demand during the 1990s.

Look of the week: Selena Gomez in mirror sunglasses & denim cutoffs

Get the look: Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez was spotted once again at her favorite restaurant in Los Angeles, Little Cafe. The singer/actress wore a very casual outfit that’s perfect for spring, including denim cutoffs, an oversized top with an open back from Free People and a loop scarf from the same brand. The brunette also wore her favorite Frye Jenny backpack in black, brown buckle ankle boots, a cuff bracelet and a pair of aviator sunglasses with trendy mirror lenses. She looked boho-chic and very relaxed on the February afternoon, just a quick reminder of why we like her style so much.

Selena Gomez has spent Valentine’s Day with girlfriends, as spotted on her Instagram account, but her date with Niall Horan did not go unnoticed. Apparently, her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, is so jealous, that he didn’t invite her to his 20th birthday party on March 1st. What do you think, does Justin have the right to still be so possessive?

For men’s eyewear, we noticed that sunglasses are becoming small and chic rather than oversized and opulent. The only details they may have is a metallic brow on an acetate frame. The shapes are classic – square or round – and so are the colors. Timeless is the word to best describe what men are wearing at Fashion Week this season.

Since it’s Fashion Week after all, you see interesting outfits wherever you look. Some people are into statement accessories – such as shield-like eyewear, and they bring it into the streets like it’s nobody’s business. Honestly, we’d rather keep this look on the runway and in Daft Punk posters, but you have to credit this girl for being so bold.

Another timeless trend we noticed are tortoiseshell sunglasses. Whether they’re round combined with a metallic brow, or oversized cat eyes, tortoiseshell frames flatter any skin tone and are easy to match with everyday looks. The girl in the second picture is wearing Prada PR29 PS sunglasses ($282).

Clear sunglasses are also having a moment. The acetate frames made of transparent plastic are as cool as it gets, and this particular model is even better with the golden arms. The angular shape is retro inspired, but as fashionable as can be.

Olivia Palermo is a woman of many looks, but we love the rather rough outfit she put on for a show in London. The starlet paired her Alexander Wang leather skirt with stilettos, a leather jacket and mirror lens sunglasses, which is edgier than what we’re used to seeing her in. Our verdict: well played.

Sometimes classic is best: small, angular sunglasses in neutral colors go with everything and they don’t stand out. This first woman pictured is wearing Tom Ford sunglasses with a red lip, while blogger and model Hanneli Mustaparta let her outfit shine by wearing plain black sunnies.

Get the look: Megan Fox' aviators & ripped jeans

Megan Fox style
Megan Fox has always been a good fit for her own name, in that she's so foxy! Pictured here, the actress is wearing white ripped skinny jeans with a simple, black tank top. Her masterful summer layering also includes a light knit vest, wedge peep toes, aviator sunglasses and a chunky plastic ring. Halfway through 2013, Megan and her husband, Brian Austin Green, announced the latest addition to their family: they're expecting their second child! A representative of the 27 year old actress confirmed the news, adding that the couple is very happy with the pregnancy. Their first born, Noah Shannon Green, saw this world on September 27th 2012, when Megan posted on her Facebook page: “We are humbled to have the opportunity to call ourselves the parents of this beautiful soul and I am forever grateful to God for allowing me to know this kind of boundless, immaculate love.” Seems like the two actors are getting the hang of parenthood very quickly, given that Megan is already pregnant again. She did mention that she wants more kids whenever she got the chance…

J. Lo is no longer just Jenny from Bronx: she is officially part of the Hollywood elite. The singer/actress was honored with the 2500th star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, at the age of 43. For the ceremony, Lopez was accompanied by her boyfriend, Casper Smart, and her two kids, Max and Emme. And then, of course, there were the fans, who came in a large number to support their favorite entertainer.

Even though Lopez promised the audience she won’t be crying, she was visibly emotional. She called the entire experience “surreal” and called herself lucky for being able to do what she likes best and what she really wants. Jane Fonda, her co-star in Monster in Law, was also present at the event, and she declared herself a big fan of J.Lo’s bootie. Pitbull and Nigel Lythgoe were also present to celebrate Lopez, who began her acting career back in 1986 with the movie My Little Girl. Since then, she rose to fame with the 1997 Selena, and sold 70 million albums worldwide. Her eighth album will be released this fall, and the fact that she received the Walk of Fame star makes it even more exciting.

Russell Brand teaches MNSBC good manners

Russell Brand gold sunglasses

Russell Brand shows us what it means to be cool in his red V-neck sweater and leather jacket, his signature long hair and messy beard, as well as a pair of hip gold sunglasses in aviator style, with a cutout at the nose bridge. The actor seems to be all about lessons these days, as a segment on MSNBC turned into a very funny one for watchers. In just a few hours, the “Morning Joe” video went viral, showing Brand standing up for himself and subtly mocking the TV hosts.

The actor was invited on the show to promote his new comedy tour, Messiah Complex. The host (Mika Brzezinski) introduced him as allegedly “a really big deal”, saying that she doesn't know anything about pop culture (really?). Another host (Brian Shactman) says he can't understand his British accent on his radio show. Soon, Brand takes over the show, making jokes about employees in the studio “facebooking” during the show, and then going on to a more serious topic. Asked whether he prefers TV, theater or stand-up, the 28 year old starts talking about the media and how it distorts the truth whenever given the chance. Brand says he's rather be in direct contact with his audience, to avoid his words being misinterpreted in any way. The discussion moves quickly to the three hosts speaking about Brand as if he weren't there, which he found utterly impolite.
