Top 5 most notable shows from Paris Fashion Week

With Paris Fashion Week reaching an end, we’re looking back at some of its best moments:

Chanel FW2014 collection.

Clearly the most buzzed about show was Chanel on Tuesday. The setting for the show was a supermarket, complete with dozens of custom made Chanel groceries. Check out Garance Dore‘s post on the topic to get some insights.

Karl Lagerfeld reinvented the brand once again, putting its trademark tweed on unexpected pieces, such as sunglasses or sneakers. Speaking of which, sneakers were turned into boots. The precious Chanel bags were wrapped in plastic or inspired by shopping baskets, while the models had absolutely crazy hair, with lots of accessories and dreads. Rihanna, Melanie Griffith, Clemence Poesy, Marianne Faithful and Keira Knightly were some of the most prominent celebrities to have graced the front row, most of them wearing Chanel.

Louis Vuitton FW2014. Images via

It was the first collection for Louis Vuitton without Marc Jacobs, and it looks like Nicolas Ghesquiere did a great job on his own. His first collection for the prestigious fashion label was inspired by the 1960s, westerns and sportswear, in an eclectic but interesting mix. The sunglasses on the catwalk were sporty, made of acetate, and colorful, and we can really imagine them on street style blogs as soon as they hit the stores. Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Chloe Sevigny, Kate Mara and more were present at the show.

Valentino FW2014.

The fall collection of Valentino was impressive, as one would expect from the label. A mix of delicate bird and butterfly embroidered pieces, with faux fur, prints and bold colors were all spotted on the runway. Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli encompassed the brand’s aesthetics flawlessly, with a modern touch. The interesting sunglasses are based on aviator shape, but they’re descending and sort of triangular. The front row was a mix of street style darlings, such as Miroslava Duma, Anna Dello Russo and Olivia Palermo, but also Valentino Garavani.

Christian Dior FW2014.

Christian Dior mixed feminine with edgy on the runway, and it’s looking good. There were pastels as well as bright, primary colors, and color blocking. The sunglasses we spotted were rimless, with a single metallic upper rim towards the upper part – a minimal and unusual style. Asymmetrical hemlines, sheer fabrics and sculptural shoes were also part of the show, which was attended by famous faces such as Eva Herzigova, Jessica Alba, Rihanna and Emma Roberts.

Chloe FW2014.

Another spectacular show was put on by Chloe. The usual minimalism of the brand was a bit changed, with metallic embellishments and colorful prints. But there were still plenty of covetable coats and pieces of jewelry. Beauty-wise, the models looked natural, but with lilac eyeshadow that made their eyes pop. The girls from Haim were present at the show, as well as Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, Miroslava Duma and Olivia Palermo.

Look of the week: Selena Gomez in mirror sunglasses & denim cutoffs

Get the look: Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez was spotted once again at her favorite restaurant in Los Angeles, Little Cafe. The singer/actress wore a very casual outfit that’s perfect for spring, including denim cutoffs, an oversized top with an open back from Free People and a loop scarf from the same brand. The brunette also wore her favorite Frye Jenny backpack in black, brown buckle ankle boots, a cuff bracelet and a pair of aviator sunglasses with trendy mirror lenses. She looked boho-chic and very relaxed on the February afternoon, just a quick reminder of why we like her style so much.

Selena Gomez has spent Valentine’s Day with girlfriends, as spotted on her Instagram account, but her date with Niall Horan did not go unnoticed. Apparently, her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, is so jealous, that he didn’t invite her to his 20th birthday party on March 1st. What do you think, does Justin have the right to still be so possessive?

For men’s eyewear, we noticed that sunglasses are becoming small and chic rather than oversized and opulent. The only details they may have is a metallic brow on an acetate frame. The shapes are classic – square or round – and so are the colors. Timeless is the word to best describe what men are wearing at Fashion Week this season.

Since it’s Fashion Week after all, you see interesting outfits wherever you look. Some people are into statement accessories – such as shield-like eyewear, and they bring it into the streets like it’s nobody’s business. Honestly, we’d rather keep this look on the runway and in Daft Punk posters, but you have to credit this girl for being so bold.

Another timeless trend we noticed are tortoiseshell sunglasses. Whether they’re round combined with a metallic brow, or oversized cat eyes, tortoiseshell frames flatter any skin tone and are easy to match with everyday looks. The girl in the second picture is wearing Prada PR29 PS sunglasses ($282).

Clear sunglasses are also having a moment. The acetate frames made of transparent plastic are as cool as it gets, and this particular model is even better with the golden arms. The angular shape is retro inspired, but as fashionable as can be.

Olivia Palermo is a woman of many looks, but we love the rather rough outfit she put on for a show in London. The starlet paired her Alexander Wang leather skirt with stilettos, a leather jacket and mirror lens sunglasses, which is edgier than what we’re used to seeing her in. Our verdict: well played.

Sometimes classic is best: small, angular sunglasses in neutral colors go with everything and they don’t stand out. This first woman pictured is wearing Tom Ford sunglasses with a red lip, while blogger and model Hanneli Mustaparta let her outfit shine by wearing plain black sunnies.

Spotted: Sunglasses at New York Fashion Week

What are the new sunglasses trends for Fall 2014? We found out, straight from New York’s runways:

3.1. Phillip Lim suggests a fresh approach for the new season: square, but rounded sunglasses made of acetate, in a variety of neutral colors: black, white, gray, even brown. The frames are flattering and look very modern.

The whole Rodarte collection was marked by glitter and warm colors, and the eyewear accompanying it got plenty of earth tones too. The glasses are slightly cat eye and the frame is gradient, featuring a light color in the lower side and a darker one in the upper side.

It’s all about dark colors and small frames at Vera Wang. The sunglasses are round, acetate, and they come in black and gray, with a slight keyhole.

We’ve spotted the smallest sunglasses at Anna Sui, who went with the shortest  cat eye sunglasses we’ve ever seen. They come in red and black, to match the rest of the collection, and they look quite eccentric.

Oscar de la Renta went for aviator sunglasses with a metallic brow and cute acetate cat eyes, both of which can work on a certain kind of woman. The former are more business-like, while the latter are more romantic.

At Kate Spade, the sunglasses are sweet as candy! They come in red, pink, brown and glittered gold, they’re oversized and slightly cat eye, and they are perfect for everyday wear.

Zac Posen opted for a little more variety, showcasing different shapes of sunglasses. We’ve seen cat eyes, square cat eyes and oversized square ones, all of which with embellished corners that are still in.

Tommy Hilfiger shows the sporty side of this fall’s woman, which includes ski sunglasses as well as mirrored aviators. The latter come in gold, which has a cool effect.

At Prabal Gurung, the sunglasses were oversized and round, made of acetate, but with a metallic frame that gives them a steampunk flair.
