Ryan Reynolds in Ray Ban Sunglasses

So, is it just us, or has Ryan come a looooong way from his silly persona in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder and the television series Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place? Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen him sprout insanely ripped abs and sultry facial fuzz, land heavyweight leading-man roles in blockbusters like The Proposal opposite Sandra Bullock and the upcoming comic flick The Green Lantern, and get hitched to one of the hottest women in Hollywood–Scarlett Johansson. But the cherry on top: he was just named People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” while his ladylove Scarlett was simultaneously named GQ’s “Babe of the Year.” Now that’s a scorching-hot couple. Ryan works his supreme man’liness in these retro-classic Ray Ban Wayfarer Originals. Does anyone have a fire extinguisher handy?  –rpuccia

Kim Kardashian in Prada Sunglasses

Kimmie’s had her share of ups and downs in the man department (mostly downs lately)since finally splitting with footballer Reggie Bush in March. Her casual dating includes a summer romance with yet another football hunk, Miles Austin (what is it with professional sports and the K’dash sisters?), and even steppin’ out a few recent nights in NYC, where she’s filming her newest reality series Kourtney and Kim Take New York,  with singer John Mayer. But her most eyebrow-raising escapade was being spotted last Sunday night at an LA Lakers game with Gabriel Aubry, Halle Berry’s ex and the father of Halle’s daughter, Nahla. Kim and the gorgeous, Gucci-modeling Gabriel reportedly met a few times while they were both in New York, and there was definitely chemistry. Is that a surprise–look at them! With Kim,  we know the glam-time never stops, as evidenced by these oversized Prada shades. We’d  expect nothing less.  –rpuccia

Christina Aguilera in Prada Sunglasses

Photo: Coolspotters.com

Christina Aguilera’s been getting slammed by the press for looking a lil chunkier than usual these days, so of course the gossipers are already speculating that she’s preggo. Let’s not forget that stress can lead to overeating, too! After all, she’s getting divorced from hubby Jordan Bratman and her new movie, Burlesque, is in theaters just in time for the holidays.

Christina headlines with Cher and the rest of the cast isn’t bad either—Eric Dane, Cam Gigandet, Julianne Hough, Peter Gallagher, Kristen Bell and Stanley Tucci are also in the film. With leading ladies like Cher and Christina it’s no shocker that Burlesque is full of showy musical numbers, but it’s already being compared to the campy cult classic Showgirls— bad plot and lotsa skin. Oh well, you can’t please everyone, right? Anyway, Christina’s looking “Beautiful” in these Prada sunglasses and her Louboutins aren’t bad, either. The shades come in Gloss Black and Havana Brown.

Eyeglasses Trends: Nerdy Horn-Rimmed Glasses are the New Cool

Nerd alert! Dorkilicious retro horn-rimmed eyewear is the new cool–and not just for the punk, indie, counter-culture set. Everyone is jumping on the Buddy Holly bandwagon including loads of celebrities who are making geek chic eyewear the hot, at-the-moment accessory, Rx or not. Kelly Osbourne, Mark Salling, Joe Jonas, Johnny Depp, Justin Timberlake, Hilary Duff, Justin Bieber, and more have been seen out and about in these nerdy spectacles.

Horn-rimmed glasses refer to their original material–which was horn or shell–and date back as far as the 1910′s and ’20′s when they first came onto the scene in the US. They typically feature frames made of horn, tortoise shell, or plastic that simulates either material. These geeky glasses enjoyed a renaissance in the 1950′s when musician Buddy Holly wore a series of large, bulky square pairs on tour and on his album covers. They made a come back in the 1980′s with the new-wave crowd, fell back out of fashion in the mid-90′s, and are back  once again enjoying a statement-making resurgence.

Over time, the glasses’ appearance evolved and expanded and the definition of horn-rimmed glasses has become more flexible. They are now commonly described as a pair of dark, plastic eyeglasses with frames that range in thickness from about 1/16″ to 1/4″ without nosepads. These days you can find them in more modern, thinner thicknesses, round and cat-eye shapes, and colors ranging from classic black and tortoise to bold neons, lipstick red and white. Some die-hard trend followers even wear the glasses without prescriptive lenses.  –rpuccia
