Robert Downey Jr. in Ray Ban Sunglasses

Photo: Paramount Pictures

Man of the moment, Robert Downey Jr., wasn’t always on top of the world. An insanely talented actor who rose to star status in the 80′s as a member of the illustrious, John Hughes films-induced “Brat Pack,” he garnered critical acclaim in movies like Less than Zero and Charlie Chaplin. After hitting a rough patch due to drug-addiction, the come-back kid got his groove back with a vengeance, starring in films like Sherlock Holmes, winning a Golden Globe for his effort, Tropic Thunder (Academy Award nominee), and the blockbuster hit Iron Man francise, in which his charisma as Tony Stark is mesmerizing. Speaking of which, RDJ rocked these ultra-cool Ray Ban 3320′s in the IM flick. Choose from four sleek metal finishes. It was a wild ride, but  he’s back and king of the box office.

Heidi Klum has proven time and again that she’s not just another pretty model face. She has literally created a fashion empire that spans every medium. She’s an Emmy nominated host for the mega-popular Lifetime TV show Project Runway (she’s Exec Producer, as well). She’s designed shoes for Birkenstock, jewelry for Mouawad, a clothing line for Jordache, and the Victoria’s Secret lingerie line bearing her nickname “The Body.” She has two fragrances, “Heidi Klum” and “Me” and she designed makeup for Victoria’s Secret aptly named The Heidi Klum Collection. As if all this weren’t enough, she’s married to a rock star (Seal), has four kids, and still finds time to sizzle while taking in some beach volleyball in these Tom Ford shades. These sporty but glam sunglasses come in three color combos: gold/light havana brown, rose gold/black, and gunmetal/dark havana brown. Like a fine wine, HK just gets better with age.

Jennifer Garner in Ralph Lauren Sunglasses

Photo: Flynet

We loved the old Jennifer Garner when she was kicking butt on the small screen–Alias–and the big screen–Elektra. Her natural beauty and rockin’ “hardbody” made her a force in Tinsel Town. But we love her even more now as the kinder and gentler Mrs. Ben Affleck and mother to tots Violet and Seraphina. She even made her Broadway debut playing Roxanne in Cyrano de Bergerac alongside Kevin Kline. She makes a classic style statement in these Ralph Lauren sunglasses with signature gold RL logos on the temples. These down-to-earth-chic shades come in four colors–black, dark havana brown, spotted havana brown, and transparent violet. Whataya expect from the wife of  THE Ben Affleck?

Rob Pattinson in Ray Ban Sunglasses

Photo: coolspotters.com

There’s hot, and then there’s HOT. Actor Rob Pattinson is certifiably the latter. RPatz went from relative obscurity, most notably in a supporting role as Cedric Diggery in the third Harry Potter installment, to rocking the world of every teenage girl (and their moms) as the venerable Edward Cullen in the cult vampire francise, The Twilight Saga. The touseled hair, angular jaw, sultry eyes and lips, and adorable, shy, self-deprecating dispostion–wow-wee, is it gettin’ hot in here? When this Paparazzi magnet steps out, it’s usually in these iconic Ray Ban sunglasses — he effectively brought this retro style back to the top of the must-have shades list. The Ray Ban Clubmaster comes in a wide range of frame and lense colors. RPatz has taken a “big bite” out of Hollywood — and we couldn’t be happier.

Taylor Momsen in Carrera Sunglasses

Photo: coolspotters.com

Young Hollywood IT girl, Taylor Momsen seems to have it all. A hot CW TV series, Gossip Girl, in which she portrays the precocious, Jenny Humphrey, whose exploits to be “Queen Bee” at her exclusive, Upper East Side all-girls school are simply scandalous (and juicy); frontgal of her rockband, The Pretty Reckless;  and a flawless style rep for her edgy, rocker-girl sensibility that seems to precede her 17 years. She really rocks it out in these red hot Carreras. They’re downright firey and glam against her platinum blond do. The saucy shades are available in 5 colors–black, havanna brown, medium havanna brown, green havanna and red. It’s dog eat dog in the young Hollywood elite club, but Taylor brings it– in style.

The PD – and How to measure yours.

I found this article on http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com blog and found it very usefull. So here it goes:

Much has been said about the pupillary distance when ordering glasses online and the difficulty in obtaining it. It’s a very important measurement and contrary to what the opticians will tell you, it’s very easy to get — in the comfort of your own home even!

A few of the sites have methods requiring you to have a friend hold a ruler up at the bridge of your nose or something akin to that. That’s a pain and not very precise.

I’ve got a better way.

Here are the required tools:
1) a pair of your existing eyeglasses (doesn’t matter too much on the prescription — just so you can see through them)
2) a non-permanent marker
3) a ruler (with millimeters preferably*)

How to do it:
1) Stand in front of a mirror (3 to 4 feet back)
2) Close Obscure your left eye with a card or thick paper
3) Mark the center of the right pupil with on the eyeglass lens with the marker.
4) Repeat with other eye
5) Measure the distance between the two dots
6) You’re done

You can have a friend do this for you also, but I had better results doing it myself. It works. I had my “professionally measured” PD from the last time I was mugged at Len Crafters, and it was identical to my latest measurement. Didn’t surprise me at all as this was precisely the method they used to measure it.

Anyway, if the optometrist is giving you hell about getting the PD, tell ‘em to stuff it and do it yourself. I think you’ll be happy with the result.

* NOTE: If you don’t have a metric ruler (and if you’re a child of the seventies like me, you’ll never be without one), just pop your standard measurement as such into the google and you’ll get the number you need. Ex. “2 9/16 inches to mm” returns “(2 9/16) inches = 65.0875 millimeters”.

Tom Cruise in Ray Ban Sunglasses

Photo: © 20th Century Fox

Tom’s cray-cray behavior has topped the headlines more than his films lately–TomKat, jumping on Oprah’s couches, Scientology rants and tongue lashings during Matt Lauer interviews. But he is undisputedly one of Hollywood’s most powerful actors. The ’80′s cult classic, Risky Business, started it all with his unforgettable lip-sync of  “Old Time Rock and Roll” in his underwear. Three Golden Globes later, he’s still dewy-faced and topping the box office with films like the Mission Impossible franchise (#4 is slated for release in 2011) and his latest, Knight and Day co-starring Cameron Diaz, due out June 25. In the film, he reprises his iconic aviators style statement (Top Gun ring a bell?) in Ray Ban mirror sunglasses. These classics come in a whole host of frame and lense color combos.  Guarantee we’ll be seeing that gorgeous, toothy grin for some time to come.
